- In Dreamweaver, go to Site Menu > Manage Sites > New > Site.
- Select the "Basic" tab, if you're not already there.
- If the first box, type in the name of the site.
- In the second box, type in the URL of the site.
- Click the "Next" button.
- Select "No I do not want to use server technology".
- Click the "Next" button.
- Select "Edit local copies on my machine then upload to server when ready".
- Select a folder on your computer in which to place the files.
- Click the "Next" button.
- In the "How do you connect to your remote server?" drop-down, select "FTP".
- In the next box, type pancho-ded.rutgers.edu.
- Leave the next box ("What folder...") blank.
- In the next box ("What is your FTP login?"), enter the username you were given.
- In the next box ("What is your FTP password?"), enter the password you were given.
- Select the "Save" checkbox.
- Click the "Test Connection" button. If successful, click the "Next" button.
- Select "No, do not enable check in and check out".
- Click the "Next" button.
- Click the "Done" button.
- Click the "Done" button.
Your website should now show up in the "Files" window (it's either on left or right depending on your setup).
(For Step 18, if you DO need check in and check out, select "Yes, enable check in and check out", ignore the next question, and enter your name and email address in the next two boxes.
Transferring Files in Dreamweaver
- In "Files" window, underneath the drop-down menu that says "Local view", click the little square aqua-and-white icon to open two windows side by side, with local and remote files.
- Click on the icon that looks like two plugs to connect to the FTP server.
- You can transfer files from your local computer to the server (or vice versa) by dragging and dropping.
Please note that you must have the Virtual Private Network (VPN) connected when you are transferring files.
